PAL
Pal is your desk-side companion, meant to illuminate, decorate, organize, and spruce up your office space.
It’s adaptable and modular, offering the ability to keep a potted plant or your favorite pens.
Inspiration
I wanted Pal to be a fusion of 2 distinct functions, so I drew inspiration from each of these product categories, with an emphasis on those made with 3D printing. I chose a clean, modern aesthetic to fit in a wide variety of spaces, as well as a variety of colors to match different decorative styles.
Form Development
In developing Pal, I played with different ratios for each element. I tested many ways to strike a balance between the functional requirements of each piece while maintaining a visual balance.
Construction
Pal is entirely 3D printed from PLA, without any glue or metal fittings besides the electrical hardware. It includes a disassembly tool in the base that allows the user to repair the lamp themselves or mix and match body pieces. Once disassembled, the entire body could be recycled into new PLA material.
